The form
Mayenne Nights (Les Nuits de la Mayenne) is a festival celebrating its 50th edition in 2023. To mark the event, Cosmogama was asked to create a visual that combines archival images of the festival with the geography of Mayenne. It was conceived as a surrealistic landscape, playing on differences in scale and the friction of seemingly unrelated elements. Yet all are references to the Mayenne Nights, its programming and performance venues. A horse, the image’s giant mascot, guides and accompanies viewers through this global image, teeming with detail.
The concept
To de-realize the image as much as possible, a two-color treatment in blue and silver is used. These two colors also add depth to the visual and accentuate the festival’s “night” feel. The contours of the typography are not straight, to give an organic feel to the whole and make the link with nature, which is dominant in Mayenne.
